Winter weather is here!

Hi Parents,

It appears that winter has finally arrived!  Last week, at least 5 children a day did not have either a hat or mittens.  25 minutes is a long time to be out in the cold.  Please assist your child with packing their bag each morning to be sure they have all of their winter gear.  Hats, mittens, snow pants and boots will be required everyday while the snow is on the ground.  A change of shoes is also required for their time spent indoors.  Thank you for your attention to these requests.

My January-February newsletter link has been "repaired".  I am sorry for the inconvenience it caused. Thank you to all who reached out to me for access to the newsletter in the interim.    Please let me know if you continue to have problems accessing my newsletter from my blog.

Tomorrow a Valentine HW assignment for parents will arrive home in a manilla envelope.  There is a letter inside the envelope explaining the assignment.  Please return your Valentine to school in the same envelope to be sure your child does not see it!  A Room 13 Valentine list will come home shortly as well...

Finally, there are 2 volunteer slots open this week for centertime - Wednesday 9-10:30 and Friday 10:15-12:15.  Please let me know if you can help!

GO PATS!!!!

Johnny the K visits Memorial School!

Johnny the K, a favorite performer in the Medfield schools for 25 years, made his annual visit to Memorial School today. He brought words and songs of kindness, appreciating diversity and using your imagination to the students and staff with his fun loving approach and of course, his collection of silly hats!  We really enjoyed his performance and brought many important learnings back to class with us - treat others the way you want to be treated, READ, READ, READ and bring a smile to someone's face with small acts of kindness.  We LOVE Johnny the K!

Guess My Rule

Here we are playing a game in math called "Guess My Rule". We chose one attribute to sort our objects by (i.e. #of legs or shape) and our learning partner had to guess the rule we sorted by.

The Hour of Code!

Mrs. Groden introduced us to "coding", also known as computer programming. The Hour of Code was a global initiative held this month to get more kids, particularly girls, interested in coding as a potential career path down the road. We coded using the free iPad app, Scratch Jr.  We used the class set of iPads in the library while Mrs Groden, Dr. Peterson and others assisted. Check out the pictures of us below!

Timothy's Toybox

Last week all the books we ordered for the children in the TTB program arrived. We enjoyed previewing all the titles and then assisted Mrs Paget in sorting and labeling the books for their December 3 delivery to Sharon and Tim Gilbert, the mother-son team who run the program. Thank you for all of your timely contributions and book orders at this time of year. We all felt a sense of pride knowing that we helped make someone's holiday a little brighter!

A few of us wrote labels for each child on the list. We were very diligent about copying the names correctly and helping our peers locate them when they needed them.

We helped Mrs. Paget find the right books for each child and made sure the name label matched.

Here are some of the books we purchased for the wee ones in the program!
